We grew up creating one of the 80s-90s most time-consuming labors of love... mixtapes. You'd sit by the radio for hours, ready to hit those 'play' and 'record' buttons at just the right moment, piecing together your audible masterpiece to share with friends (or your latest crush). Once it was done, we'd come together to laugh and sing our way through both sides of that Maxell 60-minute tape.
We strive to bring back that feeling of togetherness... but this time over great drinks. Mixtape is a small, locally-owned (& operated) cocktail lounge and coffee spot proudly located in Pittsburgh's artistic neighborhood of Garfield.
Our passion for cocktail creation can be seen in our menus. Be on the lookout for loads of house-made ingredients in our signature items. Though we specialize in unique signature cocktails, we also love to make classic drinks, café beverages, and have a fun selection of beer & wine.What else makes Mixtape unique? It's the atmosphere. In a city full of restaurants, sometimes you just want a chill place to hang out and enjoy a few drinks. Commonly referred to as a "boozy living room," we hope you enjoy posting up at one of our large couch sections or on one of our over-sized bean bag chairs. On weekdays, you can think of Mixtape as your neighborhood cocktail lounge meets coffee shop. Things are typically a little more low-key. Our customers like to hang out with their laptops and sip on a latte or meet up with a friend for a drink and some board games. On weekends, our lounge can get a little more lively. The lights come down as the night goes on and our playlists are specially curated by one of our own to fit the feel of each night. Though we have a flare for old-school hip hop, pop, and timeless R&B/soul throwbacks, we try to keep a variety of music going across different genres and decades, exploring music both old and new. After all... we have to keep the "Mix" in "Mixtape." Listen carefully and you'll even catch a handful of local tracks scattered throughout our sound waves (more heavily concentrated Tues-Thurs).
Our goal isn't to be the most Instagrammable or the most trendy place in town. It's to be the kind of place where you feel comfortable and want to become a regular.
Mixtape does not operate a full kitchen, but we do offer a small selection of lunch sandwiches (weekdays 'til 6) and bar snacks ('til 11:30pm Tu-Th // 1:00am Fri-Sat excluding First Fridays). Customers are always welcome to bring in outside food (outside beverages prohibited). Grab your favorite take-out from one of our neighbors and come hang for a while over good drinks. Fun fact: Mixtape is a no-tipping business.
Our employees are paid a higher hourly rate and are eligible for paid sick days. We could go on-and-on about the positives of this model, but just know that it creates a more enjoyable workplace environment *and* experience for the customers. If you still insist on showing your bartender some love and leave cash, we will always donate it to a local non-profit. Mixtape has helped raise thousands of dollars for amazing charities in our neighborhood and around the city.
